Jhulan of Sri Krishna and Rakhibandhan of Rabindranath Learn why this festival is celebrated?
Raksha Bandhan 2021 India: One of the twelfth journeys of Lord Krishna is the Jhulan Jatra. In the Dwapar era, the Jhulan festival was started centering on Radha-Krishna’s love affair. The word ‘Jhulan’ comes from Hindi ‘Jhula’ meaning ‘cradle’.
There are various rituals surrounding the Jhulan festival. One of them is to place a double idol of Radhakrishna in the cradle. The Jhulan festival lasts for five days from Shukla Dwadashi to Purnima in the month of Sravan.

Jhulan Purnima festival is one of the best of the Vaisnavas by imagining the twin idols of Radha and Krishna in Premlila. Millions of people in Mathura-Vrindavan participate in this festival.
The tradition of Jhulan Utsav is also ancient in Bengal. Harinam chanting is going on in many places. GOD is served with various fruits, sweets, luchi, and semolina.
The festival has a great social significance as well as religious rituals. Especially the little ones decorate the hanging with various kinds of dolls, plants, pebbles. Each sort contains a story.
Just as there are various stories centering on the Leela of Lord Krishna, such as Kaliya Daman, Bok Rakshas Badha, Putna Badha, etc., there is also a tradition of arranging modern villages, cities, hills, rivers.
Rakhi Purnima:
The last day of the five-day Jhulan Jatra is the Jhulan Purnima. Another social aspect of Jhulan Purnima is Rakhibandhan. So many people call it Rakhi Purnima.
The sisters put rakhi in the hands of their brothers in every house in Bengal. And the world poet Rabindranath Tagore roared against the partition of Bengal by using this Rakhibandhan as a tool.
Salta 1905. On 19 July, the then Viceroy of British India, Lord Curzon, announced the partition of Bengal. The main aim of the British was to resist the nationalist anti-British movement that was developing in Bengal through the partition of Bengal.
In this work, they wanted to use religious and sectarian divisions as a tool. But the result is the opposite. The time is Shravan month. In a few days, the brothers and sisters will observe Rakhi Bandhan from house to house in Bengal.

Rabindranath took the opportunity to call for a Rakhibandhan program to send a message of harmony between the two Hindu-Muslim communities.

The world poet himself led the main procession. In his voice then that song “Bengal soil, Bengal water, Bengal air, Bengal fruit, virtue, virtue, virtue, O God.” For the purpose of communal harmony in the homes of Bengal, Hindus and Muslims alike wore rakhi in each other’s hands and conveyed the message of brotherhood.
Rabindranath turned a religious ritual into a tool of social movement. That movement formed a protest resistance against the imperialist English ruler. It is the responsibility of every Bengali to hold on to the message of harmony that Rabindranath built on the thread of Rakhi.
